Headboard

After much deliberation I decided to make my own headboard ... grey linen with a dark copper nailhead trim.  It's a hack of an IKEA bed, and all up (frame and all) has set me back $300.  I'm quite pleased with the result for about a days work.

The blue in the background is the colour that wall is currently painted, I'm toying with the idea of painting the whole room that colour (with white trim).  I know that I love neutrals but part of me has always wanted a dark cobolt / almost navy room ... and it's only paint, right?

Finished photos with the room styled are yet to come ...

Progress

That, that is my mood board for our re-decoration of the main bedroom.  I've been toying with the idea for months of doing a brightly coloured room ... but I keep coming back to the simple and neutral shades.  Maybe I'm better to leave the colours for the guest room?

The biggest question of all is the bed.  I'm in LOVE with the four poster on the bottom.  But, here's the clincher.  It's 220cm long.  Our bedroom is 280cm wide.  That leaves a meesly 50cm to walk around it and to fit a TV in (AND, because it's just our luck ... there's no studs to support wall mounting the TV.  I toyed with the idea of kicking the TV out of the bedroom (but I've been overruled) and our only other option is to move into what is now the guest room ... but it's right next to the front door and furthest from the bathroom.  Hmmm ....

Otherwise, I stick with one of the beds I've previously posted about (or something similar).  Simple.  Classic.  Perhaps I need to accept that a four poster isn't made for our house.

I never thought decorating would be this hard!

Main bedroom

We're in the market for a new bed. With tax return time approaching (quietly confident, that'd be me) I am thinking it's the perfect time to invest. We're slightly limited in that we can only have an ensemble or a bed base with no bed head or end ... the length of the bed is critical. I'm quite partial to this bed (in Slate) in King no less ...

And, after watching the block last night I've become quite fond of these bedside tables ...

I've been telling myself that the black legs on the bedside table would tie it in with the dark bed base. Our dresser that we'll be keeping looks (I think) to be a similar tone to the front of the bedside tables.

Am I mad to do such a mish-mash. Probably.

Winter's coming

I think I need to build one of these in my backyard ...

the makings of a quilt

I started it! I may have bitten off slightly more than I can chew by choosing a queen size quilt for my first attempt and I've also tested my mathematical abilities but ... fingers crossed the next 8 rows go as well as these two and it should work out.

Fabric courtesy of Sheridan POP, turns out it was cheaper to buy European pillow cases on special and cut them up then to buy nice fabric. I would LOVE to make a hand screen printed quilt first but thought better of spending $300 plus on fabric for the front of the quilt on my first attempt.

That's also the beginnings of my painting nook in the background, perhaps a post of that to come ...

my first attempt at a quilt

I'm inspired to make a quilt for our bed. Cozy, fun, colourful, handmade with love. This is my inspriration

I spent too many hours searching for beautiful screenprinted fabrics and organic linens, but, I added up the cost and decided that it was perhaps not wise to spent $300+ on fabrics for the front of a quilt for my first attempt... maybe next time I've cheated slightly and bought pillowcases from the Pop by Sheridan range (helpfully on 50% off sale) to use as my patterned fabric and I think I'll use a grey as my plain fabric. Fingers crossed it works!
